Art and Music Activities

1. Pass the Plate Rhythms

Materials:

• Paper plates

• Stickers

• Marker

• Music

Preparation:

• Draw musical notes on paper plates (one per plate)

• Place a sticker on just one paper plate

• Provide enough plates for any given class

Directions:

• Have students sit on the ground, forming a circle

• Pass out a plate to each student, with one student possessing the “stickered” plate

• Play an up-beat song

• Have students pass their plates clockwise with the beat of the song

• Stop the music

• The student where the stickered plate lands on will compose a “beat” on the plate

• Other students will copy the beat

• Start the music and start passing!

 

 

 

1. Collage

Materials:

• Magazines

• Newspaper

• Construction paper

• Scissors

• Stick glue

Preparation:

• Create stations for magazines, newspaper, construction paper, scissors, and glue

Directions:

• Allow students to pick out a piece of construction paper as their base color

• Pass out scissors and glue

• Allow students to pick through magazines and newspaper, cutting interesting images that appeal to them

• Students will glue various cut images from magazines and newspaper on their construction paper to create a collage

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1. Texture

Materials:

• Plain white paper

• Colored pencils

Preparation:

• None

Directions:

• Pass out a piece of paper and colored pencils to each student

• Have students explore the classroom, pressing their paper down on various surfaces

• “Color” over the various surfaces to reveal different textures

Cover the paper with different colors and textures
